2015
2016
Our multi-strategy hedge fund and long-only equity fund were incepted in March 2016. A fully fledged team was appointed to drive the growth and evolution of the business.
2017
ECM partners with Prescient Fund Services to convert our Hedge Fund into a collective investment scheme (CIS) and tops the Hedge News Africa rankings for Multi-Strategy product set. ECM Research Analyst – Lungile Malinga was appointed the deputy chair of IASSA.
2018
ECM secures its first institutional mandate with Sygnia Asset Management. ECM launches its Global Growth and Innovation Fund. We partnered with Mergence Africa Capital and launched an internship program.
2019
ECM concludes 3 year track record and is granted FSCA License (FSP 50016). ECM Advisory business launched. ECM concludes its capital raise for NBC Holdings: R1.3 Billion. The business secures its second institutional client
2020
Our company acquired its third institutional client. Catalytic project pipeline over R15 billion. Nomtha Ngumbela appointed to the board of IAS. ECM launches 2 bundles on Easy Equities platform.

Lwazi Koyana - CA(SA)
Chairman
Lwazi is a qualified chartered accountant with more than 20 years of experience in investment management and corporate finance. Lwazi established Infinity asset management which grew assets to R4 billion within 4 years of establishment, furthermore, He helped manage the country’s first responsible unit trust, the community growth fund. Lwazi is the Chairman of ECM’s board of directors.

Aviraag has over 20+ years of financial markets experience and his areas of expertise include risk management, portfolio management, research. Aviraag is tasked with executing the company’s business strategy and ensuring that the company achieves its goals and objectives.

Avinesh Reddy - BBusci (Hons)
Business Development Director
Avinesh has a multifaceted skill let spanning research, technology, marketing and business development that he has acquired over the last 13 years at FNB, RMB, MMI and Accenture. He is renowned for his out of the box thinking and innovative approach to business. Avinesh’s focus at ECM entails extensive marketing of the business to raise institutional funds as well as sourcing fin-tech and technology deals within our advisory business.
Bhavesh Patel
Head of Risk - Bachelor of Science, Honours (Actuarial Science)
Bhavesh has over 14 years of experience in risk planning and management, compliance, end to end due diligence and portfolio management. Bhavesh helped set-up the first regulation 28 compliant Shari’ah fund of funds as well as set-up of the first listed African equity fund of funds. Bhavesh is ECM’s Head of Risk.
Tshepo Lephothe
Senior Equity Analyst - BCom in Accounting Sciences and CTA qualification
Tshepo Lephothe, a BCom and CTA-qualified Equity Analyst, brings six years of experience from the Eskom Pension Fund. Specializing in investment performance analysis and financial reporting, he strengthens Effectus’ research capabilities for consumer equities and client-focused solutions.

Michael Cartwright, an Equity Analyst Intern, leverages ASISA Academy training and prior wealth management experience to support portfolio research and valuations. A BCom Finance graduate (UJ), he bridges strategic insights with actionable portfolio enhancements for clients.
Fezile Nolutshungu
Junior Equity Analyst -BCom in Finance (Investment Management & Financial Planning)
Fezile Nolutshungu brings expertise in financial modeling and market research to Effectus, honed through internships at a capital advisory firm and Effectus itself. A University of Johannesburg BCom graduate in Finance, he supports portfolio managers with valuations and economic analysis, ensuring strategic implementation for optimized client portfolios.

Nomcebo Khumalo holds a BCom in Economics & Econometrics, specializing in global opportunity identification. Her background in fundamental research and project management aligns with Effectus’ client-centric investment ethos.
